Mac Johnson Wildlife Area: A Cozy Family Session
Some sessions are picture-perfect in every way—golden sunlight, a gentle breeze, and the perfect temperature. This wasn’t one of those. Instead, it was *freezing*! But despite the cold, this family session with Mekayla, Brody, and their sweet baby Dakota turned out to be one of my favorites.
The moment we stepped outside, I knew we were in for a challenge. My fingers stiffened almost instantly, and by the time we wrapped up, they were so frozen they barely functioned. (Note to self: wear gloves next time!) I ended up blasting the heat in my car, holding my hands up to the vents, promising myself I wouldn’t make that mistake again. But honestly? It was worth every numb fingertip.
Dakota, on the other hand, didn’t seem to mind the cold one bit. She was all giggles, especially when Mekayla tossed her high into the air. That little laugh could melt even the iciest of days! It was pure joy, the kind that reminds me why I love capturing these moments.
We worked quickly, snapping as many shots as possible before the cold got the best of us. And even though we were practically speed-running the session, the love between them was undeniable. Every frame is filled with warmth—the way Mekayla and Brody looked at Dakota, the way she reached for them with her tiny hands, and those sweet in-between moments that make family photography so special.
By the end, we were all ready to run back to our cars to blast the heat, but looking at these photos now, you’d never know just how cold it was. All you see is love, laughter, and a family wrapped up in each other.
So here’s to braving the elements for the sake of memories! And here’s to remembering gloves next time. ❄️📸
