BCI Prom Photos at Hardy Park
A Hardy Park Prom Dream | Keira’s BCI Prom Session
There’s something about prom; the anticipation, the sparkle, the sense of ending and beginning all wrapped into one whirlwind day. As a photographer, I’ve captured countless moments over the years, but there’s always something especially sweet about a prom session. On May 29th, I had the absolute joy of photographing Keira, a 2025 graduate from Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI), as she celebrated one of the most exciting nights of her high school career.
Set against the lush greenery and riverfront charm of Hardy Park in Brockville, Keira’s session was as magical as the day itself. The clouds were soft and rolling, creating a light, overcast sky that gave us perfect even lighting — with just enough sun peeking through at times to give us a hint of glow. It was the kind of dreamy, diffused light photographers love, and it complemented Keira’s whole look beautifully.
And oh! Keira’s look. Let’s talk about that for a moment.
Keira wore a strapless, light pink satin gown that felt like it had been made just for her. The soft hue of the dress was perfectly balanced; delicate and romantic without feeling too fussy. It moved effortlessly with the breeze off the St. Lawrence, giving us those magical movement shots that make a gallery sing. Satin is one of those fabrics that photographs like a dream, especially when a little wind comes into play, and we were lucky enough to have just the right amount.
Paired with the dress were light pink strappy heels; the kind that are elegant, feminine, and just bold enough to make a statement without overpowering the simplicity of the gown. The overall look was classic prom-meets-modern fairytale, and Keira wore it all with confidence, grace, and the kind of joy that radiates through the lens.
Our session began with some classic solo portraits to capture Keira in her element. Just her, her gown, and the quiet buzz of the evening to come. Hardy Park gave us a perfect mix of natural backdrops. From the tree-lined walkways to the gentle shoreline. We played with different textures and settings: the boardwalk, soft grass, wooden benches, and open spaces with the river just in the background. Keira was a natural in front of the camera. Poised but playful, elegant but down-to-earth.
Her smile came easily, but my favourite moments were the in-between ones. Prom is full of big, posed moments, but I’m always drawn to the quiet authenticity of these little ones. They’re the moments that make up a person. The ones that help you remember not just how you looked on your prom day, but how you felt.
Of course, prom isn’t just about the dress and the solo portraits, it’s about the people you share the night with. Keira was joined by several of her friends, and photographing them together was one of the highlights of the evening. There’s something so sweet about capturing that specific brand of high school friendship, the kind that’s built on years of shared lockers, inside jokes, hallway run-ins, and group chats that never quite quiet down.
The girls posed together with a blend of elegance and humour. You could feel the connection between them, the kind of friendship that makes prom not just an event, but a memory you’ll hold onto for decades.
We did a few fun group shots and then broke off for smaller pairings, giving each girl her moment while still celebrating their bond.
One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was when Keira’s family joined her for a series of photos. Her grandparents were there; proud, beaming, and clearly soaking in every moment of their granddaughter's milestone day.
Keira also posed with her parents, and you could tell how proud they were.
We took a few shots with the family with the river behind them. The tones of the overcast sky made everything feel soft and cinematic. These are the kinds of images that families look back on years from now and feel the emotion all over again.
Photographers often talk about “the golden hour”, that moment just before sunset when the light is warm and magical. But on Keira’s prom day, we had something just as beautiful: an overcast sky that served as a giant natural softbox. The clouds diffused the light in a way that made every image feel creamy and rich, with no harsh shadows or squinting eyes. And every now and then, the sun would peek through just long enough to grab some warm sunset lighting.
The weather was a blessing in disguise. It kept things cool and comfortable. No sweating, no worrying about makeup melting. Just soft light, a gentle breeze, and the steady hum of excitement from everyone in the park.
Prom is one of those life moments that marks a major transition, not just the end of high school, but the beginning of everything that comes next. Whether it’s university, travel, work, or a gap year to figure things out, there’s a sense of possibility and wonder baked into every moment of prom night. As a photographer, I don’t just want to capture how my clients looked on that day, I want to capture how they felt.
For Keira, that meant freezing the joy in her laughter, the quiet pride in her parents’ eyes, and the sparkle of friendship shared on the cusp of something new. These portraits are more than just pretty pictures. They’re keepsakes. Reminders. Proof of who you were at this exact moment in time.
For the Grads Who Want More Than Just a Cell Phone Snap
Sessions like Keira’s remind me why I do what I do. In an era of quick selfies and TikTok videos, there’s still so much value in taking the time to document a milestone with intention. Keira now has a gallery of images that tell a story, her story, from solo portraits to heartfelt family moments to joyful group shots with her best friends.
If you’re a future grad or the parent of one, let this be your reminder that these moments matter. They fly by in the blink of an eye, and the photos you take today will mean the world tomorrow.
